• WIAW: Toning Down the Sugar

I don’t have any New Year’s resolutions this year (I explained last year why I don’t particularly like those), but I do feel that every new year is a fresh start and I like to use it as a time to refocus myself. My sugar consumption went from high to OBSCENE over the past few months, and I really need to get it under control. I blame it partially on work (what would you do with delicious and free cookies and candy available to you almost every day?) but really it’s my self-control that has failed. Up until a couple weeks ago, I was eating “dessert” about 5 or 6 times a day, and would crave sugar to the point where I felt shaky if I went a long time without any. No bueno! I’m working really hard on fueling my body properly so that I have enough energy and can kick this sugar habit to the curb.

As soon as I started replacing my dessert cravings with fruit (still sugar, but a much better smaller and form of it than what I was eating) and eating more complex carbs, things got a lot better. Now I don’t even eat a full dessert every day! My body was begging me to stop the abuse, and I have officially listened.

Breakfast: french toast with Ezekiel cinnamon raisin bread, fried egg, strawberry smoothie

Lunch: Moe’s ground beef burrito on a multigrain tortilla, chips, sparkling water to drink

We’re back into Moe Wednesday (for those who don’t know, Moe’s offers a lovely student discount on Wednesdays!) and it was nice enough that we could eat al fresco. I didn’t even need a jacket! Not sure what the exact temp was at that point but it was at least in the high 60′s. I love the South.

Dinner: chicken and avocado egg rolls, asian salad

I threw together a salad with mixed greens, mandarin oranges, almond slices, water chestnuts, and baby corn topped with this delicious dressing.

And the egg rolls were SO GOOD! Every Guy Fieri recipe I try is incredible, and he seems to have quite the knack for working with Asian flavors.

And no dessert for me! I’m full and don’t really feel like I need any! VICTORY! :D

I actually have a ton of homework tonight so I should probably get to work…

    Thanks for reading!
